Clarke Basketball in Full Effect

This week at Clarke you may have heard some chanting and rumbling coming from the Kehl center. That's because our men's and women's basketball teams played against Graceland University.

The women's team has been on fire with a 16 game win streak and last night gave them their 10th win in the Heartland Conference. The ladies pulled through after having a tough shooting night. With only a 36.4 shooting percentage, fans kept their faith in the Pride as they finished the game 61-47. A few spotlight women we feel need the recognition include the top two scorers from the night,  Giana Michels and Tina Ubl with 11 points each! The rest of the points came from  Emma Kelchen (9), Hannah Ambrosy (8), Nicole McDermott (6), Skylar Culbertson (5), Izzie Peterson (4), Taylor Haase (4), and Rebecca Schroeder (2) all produced baskets from the field with Mya Merschmann adding a point from the free-throw line. Great game ladies! All of our Clarke community looks forward to seeing you host No. 13 ranked Eagles of Central Methodist University for a 12:00 p.m. tip-off.

Now for our men's team, which followed the win of the women's game, leading to a 77-70 win for the Pride! The 27 point performance from senior Keith Johnson was unmatched and unruly to Graceland. They just couldn't stop him! The 27 points tie his second-highest total in a game this season. Not only did Keith give us all a great performance, but Jacob Fierst also capitalized on 14 points and 15 rebounds while adding two assists and a blocked shot. As well as, Jordan Lake (14) and Chandler Dean (15) adding more rally to the team! Dean grabbed five rebounds with three assists and a steal, while Lake finished with eight assists, two steals, a rebound, and a blocked shot. A great win for our men this past evening. Keep the fire going with our men as they go up against Central Methodist University this Saturday for a 2:00 p.m. scheduled tip-off at the Kehl Center.

And of course, how can we not talk about our fans here at Clarke University. Between almost every seat filled in our fan section to the unmatched roar we all bring, our basketball teams surely knew they had a whole gym cheering them on their way to victory. I could already hear fans hollering and getting our teams hyped up when I walked by the Kehl. Keep up the spirits and join Clarke at their next games! They are not one to miss!
